HAVANA TIMES – Daniel Ortega’s regime continues its war against civil society organizations, asking the National Assembly —dominated by his Sandinista Front— to cancel another 96 NGOs, which will increase the number of organizations summarily canceled by 452 since 2018, of which 378 have been settled so far in 2022.
The initiative to strip the organizations of their legal status was presented by the Sandinista deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, who accuses the organizations of failing to comply with the General Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities and the Law against Money Laundering.
Among the organizations that will be officially closed this Thursday, June 2, are ones of social development, environmental and cultural promotion, ones of farmers, others of young people, etc. They join the extensive list of organizations already cancelled for alleged non-compliance with the presentation to the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) of its financial statements.
Directors of the cancelled organizations have indicated that, on repeated occasions during the last four years, the Migob refused to receive the requested documents.
On Tuesday, May 31, the cancellation of another 83 non-profit organizations became official.
